These Freshly Painted Pools are Perfect for Summer in NYC
It is officially summertime! That means school’s out and children all across the country are cannonball-ing into pools to cool down and splash around. But kids living in big cities like New York City often lack the luxury of having their own pool to jump into to cool off.
Luckily, for those who live in New York City, the NYC Parks Department manages 55 public pools across the five boroughs that are available to local residents all summer long, for free! And this summer, thanks to the recent Cool Pools initiative, 5 of the pools underwent a renovation and rebranding, and are more beautiful than ever!
The Parks Department launched the pilot program, Cool Pools, last month. The program chose one pool from each of the five boroughs to receive a colorful new look. The pools that were renovated were Douglas and DeGraw Pool in Gowanus, Fisher Pool in East Elmhurst, Mapes Pool in East Tremont, Sheltering Arms Pool in Harlem, and West Brighton Pool in Staten Island. Most of these pools haven’t seen a major renovation since they were built in the 1970s. It was definitely time for a fresh coat of paint!
The Parks Department worked with Paintzen to refresh the walls. The old, chipping paint was transformed with bright and bold colors to create a happy summertime atmosphere. Paintzen was able to color-match the exact shades the NYC Parks Department needed for this project. Using PPG Paints Sunproof Exterior Paint means these pools can expect their paint job to be durable, mildew resistant, and looking fabulous all summer long and for years to come!
Once the painting was completed, the team at Duggal Visual Solutions added some extra flair to the walls with some super cool artwork: vinyl stickers of igloos, penguins, ice cream cones, and more!
The pools also received some new lounge chairs, tropical umbrellas, and even palm trees! For New Yorkers looking to escape this summer and cool off, these Cool Pools are an oasis full of color and exciting activities for children and adults of all ages.
